Topolyne, Kherson region
During operations, the INTERNATIONAL SERVICE DEMINING discovered a 122 mm artillery shell.
The munition had been buried in the ground for over two years — since the temporary occupation of the area in 2022 — and posed a serious threat to local residents and agricultural machinery.
The village of Topolyne was temporarily occupied during the active hostilities in 2022. As they retreated, Russian forces heavily mined fields, roads, and areas surrounding the village. After de-occupation, most of the farmland remained contaminated with explosive remnants of war.
The dangerous shell was identified and secured in accordance with international safety protocols. Operations continue.
Each such operation means one less danger on the map — and one more step toward returning the land to safe use.
